Meet Henry McAlister: Relationships, Real Estate and a Global Perspective

With over a decade in prime residential property and a career spanning an estimated £200–300 million in sales, Henry McAlister brings experience, commercial instinct and a relationship-led approach to DDRE. Having worked closely with private clients and family offices beyond the traditional agency model, his perspective on property extends well beyond the transaction itself. Away from work, you'll find him on the tennis court, skiing in Verbier or making the most of a summer in Ibiza.

Beyond the Transaction

For Henry, real estate has always been about more than the property itself. After just over ten years in the industry, it is the combination of commercial opportunity, problem-solving and understanding people that continues to motivate him.

“I enjoy solving issues for clients and understanding what they like,” he says. “Every client is different, and no two transactions are quite the same.”

It is an approach shaped in part by his experience working with private clients and family offices outside the conventional agency environment. These relationships have given him a broader understanding of how clients operate, what they expect from an adviser and the importance of looking beyond the immediate transaction.

At the prime end of the market, discretion, communication and attention to detail are essential. For Henry, so is the ability to recognise what a client is really trying to achieve and navigate the challenges that come with it.

His track record speaks to the scale of his experience, with career sales estimated at £200–300 million and his largest transaction to date being the £40 million Belgravia Gate Penthouse. Yet it is the relationships built along the way that he sees as equally valuable.

A Relationship-Led Approach

Working outside the traditional agency structure has allowed Henry to develop a network of private clients and family offices, opening doors to opportunities that often begin long before a property comes to market.

He believes the strongest relationships are built through understanding, consistency and the ability to deliver. “Clients want someone who listens, understands what they are trying to achieve and can solve problems rather than simply present them.”

It is this perspective that he brings to DDRE, where the opportunity to combine independence with the support of an established team was a key attraction.

“Daniel has created an amazing platform,” Henry explains. “The global brand is exciting, and Daniel’s reputation gives it the credibility to allow me to utilise my network, particularly on the marketing side.”

For Henry, the appeal lies in bringing together the relationships he has cultivated throughout his career with DDRE’s wider reach and resources. It is an opportunity to build on existing connections while offering clients a broader, more connected service.

Life Beyond London

Away from the property market, Henry's interests are equally varied. Tennis plays a central role, both competitively and socially, while swimming offers another way to switch off from the pace of work.

Travel, however, is where his preferences become particularly clear. Winter means skiing in Verbier, while summer is reserved for Ibiza. Las Vegas also makes the list, particularly for its shows and entertainment.

His taste in restaurants follows a similarly social instinct. Stanley's in Chelsea is a favourite, helped by the fact that a close friend owns the restaurant and hosts events there. For Henry, the appeal is as much about the atmosphere and company as it is about the food.

And when it comes to unwinding after a busy week? The answer is refreshingly uncomplicated: takeaway, the sofa and some television. His choice of takeaway, however, remains firmly under wraps.

There is also a musical constant. Feed Your Head by Paul Kalkbrenner is a track that reliably puts him in a good mood, bringing back memories whenever it plays.

The Henry You Don't Know

For someone whose professional life involves reading situations and understanding people, Henry's choice of superpower is perhaps unsurprising. Given the option, he would choose invisibility or the ability to read minds, with one important condition: he would need to be able to switch it off.

He also has a dinner-party trick up his sleeve, learned in Las Vegas, although he is keeping the details to himself for now.

It is a glimpse of a personality that sits comfortably alongside the commercial side of his career: ambitious, sociable and always interested in what makes people tick.

A New Chapter at DDRE

Joining DDRE represents an opportunity for Henry to bring his experience, relationships and network into a platform with international reach. The combination of independence, collaboration and a recognised global brand is what excites him most about the next stage of his career.

With more than a decade in the business behind him, he arrives with an established perspective on prime residential property and a clear appreciation for the relationships that underpin it.

For Henry, the objective remains straightforward: understand the client, solve the challenges and deliver the right result. It is a philosophy grounded in experience, and one he is looking forward to bringing to DDRE.
