Stine Kaus' Autumn Guide to Notting Hill

TO DISCOVER

TO DISCOVER

To discover: Arte House

Behind a deep olive shopfront at 82 Golborne Road sits one of the most personal collections in West London. Arte House is the work of founders who have spent more than two decades collecting art, antiques and objects between London and Cornwall, and the shop is laid out like a home rather than a showroom.

Modern British paintings hang above antique chests. Ceramics, sculpture, books and textiles sit alongside pieces commissioned from contemporary makers. Everything is chosen to be lived with, not kept behind glass.

TO BROWSE

TO BROWSE

Soho Home Studio

Soho Home is the interiors arm of Soho House, built so members and non-members alike can bring the look of the clubs home. Its Notting Hill studio on Westbourne Grove is a curved white corner building with warm globe lights in the windows, and inside it feels less like a shop than a sitting room you are allowed to rearrange.

Expect velvet sofas, low lamplight, tactile glassware and artwork, with a design team on hand for consultations if you are furnishing more than a corner.

FOR COFFEE

FOR COFFEE

Hagen

Tucked onto Ledbury Road, Hagen is a small Danish espresso bar with a sage-green awning and a handful of stools facing the street. The brand began as a Copenhagen-inspired coffee project in London, and its founding idea is that a coffee break should be a social moment, not a transaction.

Order a cinnamon bun with something warm, take a stool outside under the awning, and watch Ledbury Road wake up. Then walk it off past the boutiques towards Westbourne Grove.

Stine's take: Hygge, done properly. The kind of stop that turns an errand into an afternoon.

TO TREASURE HUNT

TO TREASURE HUNT

Golborne Road market

The Golborne Road stalls are the northern end of the Portobello market, which has traded in this part of London for more than 150 years. Where Portobello's southern stretch is known for specialist antique dealers, Golborne Road is looser and more unpredictable: furniture, bric-a-brac, old lamps, ceramics and the occasional real find spread across the pavement.

Friday and Saturday are the main days, and Friday is Golborne's busiest. There is no street market on Sundays.

Stine's take: Arrive early. The best pieces are gone before the brunch crowd has finished its first coffee.

TO EAT

TO EAT

Golborne Deli

A few doors down at number 100, Golborne Deli has been feeding the street for over two decades. It sits somewhere between a deli and a neighbourhood café: strong coffee, proper breakfasts, sandwiches, salads and homemade cakes, with a small terrace under white parasols that is made for people-watching.

It is a local favourite rather than a destination, which is exactly the point.
